Professional qualifications for pursuing the profession of vision therapist is acquired through the completion of
a) an accredited Master’s study in the field for special education, with a state final examination in ophthalmology or typhlopedia and the completion of another post-graduate accredited study programme for special teachers with a focus on vision therapy, if it was commenced by the end of 2010, or
b) an accredited Master’s study in the field for special teachers, with a state final examination in ophthalmology or typhlopedia and the completion of an accredited qualification course in vision therapy.
The Ministry will recognise, through a decision, specialised qualifications of a low-vision therapist pursuant to Section 23a of Act No. 96/2004 Coll., in its wording from the date of effect of this Act. after the demonstration of at least 5 years of the performance of an activity that corresponds to the profession of vision therapist, as of the date of effect of this Act.

Until specialised competency is gained, a vision therapist may work at a medical facility under the expert supervision of a vision therapist competent to perform the profession without expert supervision in the field (clinical ophtamology).
