Master Mariner

profession and activity

The master is a crew member of a maritime ship, a deck officer in the command level. He manages all the normal operation of the ship, both nautical and technical, issues of acceptance of goods for shipping and their safe storage, the supply of the ship by operational fuel, food and other needs for safe operation. If necessary, he makes any required radio-communication in the GMDSS system. Personally manages activities of crews under emergency conditions to ensure the safety of the ship and the persons on it. He directly controls the power on-board navigational watch keeping officers and personally takes over the management board for nautical navigation in difficult conditions, arrival and departure from ports.

Master mariner of a ship of gross tonnage up to 3000 RT: university degree or secondary vocational education in marine navigation or professional training for mariners organized by marine school of a member state of an international agreement by which the Czech Republic is bound; Master mariner of a ship of gross tonnage over 3000 RT: the mentioned training is obligatory; examination of professional competence before a commission nominated by the Marine Authority, knowledge of Czech language.
